World Tamil Association, Madurai: The history of Madurai city is 9500 years older. The Madurai city is flourishing with circumspection and energy. If we talk about the merits of Madurai, you will get considerable merits out of which is The World Tamil Association of Madurai. The area of the World Tamil Association is spread over more than 14 acres covering the land of 87300 square feet. In the front of the World Tamil Association, it has 1330 kurlas of Iyan Thiruvalluvan. 

The major language of the World Tamil Association is Tamil. The Tamil language is one of the living languages in the world. You can say the city of Madurai acts as a unifying body for the Tamils and Tamil organizations. It takes the task of carrying out Ammozhi Semmantu on the world stage. In 1986, the World Tamil Association was started and it was rejuvenated in 2012.

History

In 1981, the Well known CM of Tamil Nadu, MGR announced the work of the World Tamil Association. The announcement was made during the 5th World Tamil Conference and after that, the World Tamil Association will work under the Tamils โ€‹โ€‹and Tamil organizations. As per the guidelines from the CM MGR, the total land of 14.15 acres of Madurai was allocated to the World Tamil Association. 

  • 1986: On the 14th of April 1986, the CM of Tamil Nadu, MGR completed the task of the inauguration of the World Tamil Association. The inauguration ceremony was happen in the Medical College Grounds of Madurai. On the very first day, various program was started at the World Tamil Association such as music hall, dance hall, theater hall, villisai, innisai, seminar, etc.
  • 2010: The current CM of the Tamil Nadu, Kalyan M. Karunanidhi has allocated a fund of Rs 100 crores to the World Tamil Association. It is under the Tolkappiyar Ulaga Tamil Classical Association. It was published under the Tamil Development, Charitable Institutions and Press Department (Section 2-2) Ordinance No. 380 in September 2010. The name of the organization is changed to World Tamil Classical Tolkappier Parevai. Then, new members of the organization were appointed along with the Executive Committee. The day was 21 October 2010. 
  • 2012: in 2012, the present CM of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalitha that the World Tamil Association will work in Madurai. Then, a separate office was built and a special officer was appointed to look out for the whole work. In July 2012, Tamil Development, Charitable Institutions and Press Department (Section 2-2) Ordinance No.234 was published. 
  • 2014: Till 2012, the organization was working in Room Number 06 in the Ramanathapuram District Collectorate building of Madurai District Collectorate. From Monday, November 2014, the organization started operating from the rented building and the office was on the 3rd floor. The area of the building was Kavian Plaza in the Annanagar area of โ€‹โ€‹Madurai
  • 2015: In September 2015, The post of Special Officer was promoted to the Director and commissioned posts. This was published under the Tamil Development and Press Department (Section 2-2) as per Ordinance No. 160. 
  • 2016: On the 01st of March 2016, the Perunditta Campus of the World Tamil Association was built. The location of the World Tamil Association campus is the Tallakulam area of โ€‹โ€‹Madurai, which is spread over 14.15 acres of land. It is inaugurated by the CM of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa using a video conference call. Now, the World Tamil Association is functioning from the Perundita Campus of area of 87300 square feet. 

Purpose

  • Register: The Tamils who are living anywhere in India or in other parts of the world which give their contribute to building Tamil Associations, Tamil Organizations, Tamil Institutins, or Tamil Study centers, can provide the details using the Register method of the World Tamil Association. 
  • Federation: All Tamil organizations should register under one umbrella organization and build a confederation. All the efforts are for the development of the Tamil language.
  • Propaganda: The objective of the World Tamil Association is to spread the details of the literature, and culture of the Tamil language in all nations of the world.
  • Collection: The World Tamil Association wants to ensure that the lifestyle and literary work of Tamils reach everywhere in the world through the collection of the organization. 
  • Repository: The World Tamil Association will prepare and publish a repository on World Tamils.
  • Help: Another aim of the World Tamil Association is to Provide linguistic, literary, and cultural assistance to all of the Tamils who left India due to economic and living circumstances to the anger countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Fiji, Mauritius, French Guiana and currently inhabited countries such as America, France, Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait.
  • Art: The World Tamil Association wants to provide opportunities for Tamils who are currently residing in foreign countries. These Tamils can experience the traditional arts of Tamil Nadu such as sculptures, sophisticated paintings, dramas, and folk arts through the World Tamil Association.
  • Research: The World Tamil Association wants to set up research centers work wide and to start Tamil Langage University in foreign countries.
  • Identity: The World Tamil Association aims to provide possibilities for Tamils โ€‹โ€‹residing in foreign countries to comprehend Tamil literature and cultural symbols. 
  • Events: The World Tamil Association chooses two foreign countries each year. The objective of the World Tamil Association is to arrange workshops and seminars in those two countries every year. Each year different countries will be picked by the World Tamil Association.
